Our Place typically retains eight to 10 Angus bulls from the spring and fall calving herds and encourages those seeking specific traits to contact us early in the season for best selection. Only the highest quality individuals are selected at weaning based on their genetic quality, phenotype, EPDs and disposition. The bulls are then hand fed a 16% grower ration and maintained on fescue pasture with a Bovatec supplement until one year of age. Daily hand feeding allows us to keep a close watch on bulls as they develop and makes them easy to handle. All bulls must pass a breeding soundness exam that includes scrotal measurement and semen test. And, although it’s not required on virgin bulls, the yearling bull program at Our Place includes testing for Trichomoniasis so bulls sell “Trich-free”.
“Bred, born and raised in the tradition that family matters.”
This defines Our Place Angus to a “T” as we welcome a fifth generation into the production of quality registered Angus cattle. Our Place is deeply embedded with family traditions, both in Angus genetics and the heart of our personal lives, as we work diligently to provide quality seedstock animals that are reflective of the heart and soul of our livelihood. Proudly recognizing that some of our finest genetics are deeply rooted in 10 generations of Angus produced within the family herd, we are humbled by the opportunities and challenges presented us as stewards of these rolling Missouri Ozarks pasturelands and fine Angus cattle.
Occasionally participating in area, regional or state sales, Our Place enjoys a healthy demand for private treaty sales and welcomes those seeking Angus females of all ages to contact us. Selling show heifers that are “started and ready” has become a niche market for us as we enjoy working with youth looking for a special 4-H or FFA project worthy of building a herd. While we all like to win, life isn’t all about winning. Our Place show heifers are promoted to provide kids every opportunity for a successful show career in all levels of competition. Win or lose, it’s all about the experience, and when show heifers leave Our Place we’re certain they have the attitude it takes to help their new owners become confident competitors. Many of our heifers have proven to be champions in the show ring and most all have gone on to be champions in the pasture as well. As you’ll see on our “Successes” page, Angus bulls and females from the Our Place program have resulted in a magnitude of accomplishments for our customers.
Oh, our beloved donor cows. These are the girls that put family and tradition into perspective here at Our Place as they represent the true grit of building a breeding program. Always seeking to improve our genetics, it’s inspiring to know that our up and coming donors stem back to the start of the Our Place ET program. Knowing that these foundation genetics have helped us grow at an accelerated pace in a direction that is parallel to breed demand brings both satisfaction and continuing challenges. We’re always happy to visit with other seedstock producers about the possibilities that may be attained from these females and always look forward to “talking the Angus talk” with those interested in sharing our vision.
